Trusted Adults 2.0 Example

Campaign Overview:

One of the best ways we can protect a young person from suicide is for them to have caring, connected, and positive adults in their lives. A Trusted Adult could be a parent, an older sibling, a relative, employer, teacher, coach, faith leader, or community member - anyone that a young person could reach out to. This campaign focuses on helping individuals identify, name and connect to an adult they could go to if they were experiencing a difficult time or if a friend needed help.

Goals:

  • Increase youth/adult connectedness.
  • Create a culture that increases students’ belief that adults can help friends who are at risk and can be trusted in difficult times.
  • Practice help seeking pathways.
  • Use positive norming to encourage healthy trust and connection between youth and adults.

Our Trusted Adults Campaign Resources include:

  • an overview of the campaign and its goals
  • four separate meeting agendas
  • a campaign reflection worksheet

Campaign Examples

  • Which Trusted Adult is the GOAT in your building?

The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) award is not only 1. such a flex to receive, but 2. one of our fastest-growing campaign activities! 🐐

Students nominate their Trusted Adult and share why they deserve to be the GOAT of the month. The kind words and thoughtful reflections help students name and appreciate the adult(s) who support them, while the adult receiving those words gets to be uplifted, celebrated, and grow their connection with students. This isn’t a popularity contest, but a time to uplift the teacher who checks in, the coach who believes in you, the staff member who makes you feel seen.

The winning Trusted Adult gets the iconic✨ stuffed goat to display all month long. And yes, they can dress it up however they want! Don’t have a stuffed goat lying around? No problem! A certificate and humble bragging rights are just as fun!

  • Collaboration Is Key!

One of the best ways to spread Hope, Help, and Strength is by teaming up with other organizations in your school or community. Check out this creative collaboration where the Sources team partnered with Future Farmers of America for “Vote the Goat.” Students submitted the name of their Trusted Adult while being surrounded by real goats! Talk about thinking outside the box! This partnership helped reach every corner and culture of the school while making fun and memorable connections.

  • We’re So Lucky 🍀

We feel so lucky to have so many incredible Trusted Adults and mentors! Customize your own Trusted Adult campaign around a holiday theme or trending topic to make your campaign fun, unique, and relatable! Check out this team’s St. Patrick’s Day booth where they created customized DIY thank you cards and not only wrote a note of appreciation, but also why that adult was important to them. Then they handed those notes directly to their Trusted Adult, creating additional moments of connection.

  • “I Am a Trusted Adult” Pledge

What does it mean to be a Trusted Adult at your site? We’ve linked a Trusted Adult Pledge below as a resource, however, we encourage each team to create their own version that reflects their team's thoughts and values.

After creating your pledge, we encourage folks to present it at a staff meeting. If adults would like to commit to the pledge, we invite them to post the pledge on their door (this should be fully optional, never volun-told!). When adults display the pledge openly, it helps students better identify who they can turn to for support, especially if they’re still searching to identify a Trusted Adult in the building.

  • Looking for Meeting Resources? We’ve got you!
